Call for Research Evidence Mental Health Issues And The Coaching Client Population
Mental ill health amongst the coaching client population receives regular coverage as an issue that the coach and organisers of coaching services need to be aware of and to deal with appropriately. Yet, there is little evidence as to the impact that the mental health of the client has on the coaching relationship and coaching outcomes. In partnership with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) coach and author Andrew Buckley of Kipepeo and Oxford Brookes University is conducting research looking for evidence as to the incidence, extent and impact of mental health issues within coaching relationships in UK organisations. The route to this will be an online survey of those people who manage and organise coaching services within UK businesses. At this stage the individual coach and client are not being contacted, only managers of coaching services. Confidentiality of the respondent and the organisation will be maintained throughout to facilitate the gathering of information in, what is often perceived as, a sensitive area. This research is important as part of the ongoing drive to professionalism within the UK coaching industry and to inform coaches and providers of coaching services about the manifestation of possible mental health issues in the client population. Can I encourage you to share your knowledge for the benefit of our profession?
